Social Media Investigation in Malaysia — Fake Accounts, Harassment & Impersonation

Fake profiles, anonymous harassment, impersonation and defamatory posts can cause real damage. We use lawful open-source intelligence (OSINT) to find out who is behind an account, document what was posted and help you respond the right way.

What we can establish

What this investigation can tell you

  • Who is likely behind a fake or anonymous account
  • Links between profiles, phone numbers and other accounts
  • A preserved record of posts, comments and messages with dates
  • Whether a person's online claims match reality
  • Reach and spread of damaging content
Who it is for

Who we help

  • Individuals facing harassment or impersonation
  • Businesses targeted by fake reviews or defamatory posts
  • Parents worried about who a child is talking to
  • Employers checking online conduct linked to the company

Fake account investigation

A fake account investigation looks at who is likely to be behind an anonymous or fake profile on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X or WhatsApp — using the account's history, connections, writing style, photos and links to other accounts in public sources.

Online harassment investigation

An online harassment investigation documents every message, post and account involved, in date order, so the police, the platform or your lawyer can act. We help you report the content to the platform at the same time.

Impersonation investigation

When someone pretends to be you or your company — to borrow money from your friends or cheat your customers — an impersonation investigation preserves the evidence and helps you get the accounts taken down.

Defamation and reputation attacks

We trace who is spreading false claims about a person or business and prepare an evidence pack your lawyer can use.

Social media investigation within the law

Our social media investigation in Malaysia uses only information that is publicly visible or that you are entitled to share. We do not hack accounts, create fake friend requests to trick people into revealing private information, or access private messages.

The process

How it works

Capture first

We preserve the content properly before it is deleted — links, timestamps and screenshots.

Open-source analysis

Usernames, photos, writing style, connected accounts and public footprints are analysed.

Attribution

Where possible, we link the account to a real person using lawful sources.

Report & action plan

A report for platform takedown, a police or MCMC complaint, or your lawyer.

Before you contact us

What to prepare

  • Links to the profiles, posts or groups
  • Screenshots with dates and times visible
  • Names of anyone you suspect, and why
  • What outcome you want (removal, report, legal action)
Honest expectations

The law and the limits

We only use publicly available information and lawful methods — we do not hack accounts or obtain private messages. Platforms decide on takedowns, and official data from platforms is released only to the police or by court order.

Questions

Social Media Investigation — FAQ

Can you find out who runs a fake account?

Often, yes — through lawful open-source analysis of linked accounts, photos and patterns. We tell you honestly how confident the attribution is.

Should I reply to the harasser?

Usually not. Preserve the evidence, block if needed, and report. Replying can make things worse.

Where do I report online harassment in Malaysia?

To the platform, to the police, and for content issues to MCMC. We can help prepare a clear report.
