Business Due Diligence in Malaysia — Check Before You Sign

Before you invest, appoint a supplier, take on a partner or pay a deposit, find out who you are really dealing with. We verify the company, the people behind it and the claims they make — lawfully, quietly, with every finding sourced.

WHEN

When to ask for due diligence

Investing or buying a share

Confirm the company exists as described, who really controls it, and whether there are court cases, winding-up petitions or bankruptcies behind it.

A new supplier, distributor or contractor

Check that the business is real, trading from the address it gives, and not linked to people or companies you have had problems with before.

A joint venture or business partner

Look at the partner's track record: earlier companies, how they ended, disputes, and what the public record says about the directors.

Paying a large deposit

Many losses start with a convincing website and a company number. A short check before you pay costs far less than recovering money afterwards.

SCOPE

What we check

Company identity

Registration, status, registered and business addresses, nature of business, share capital and filing history from Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) records.

Directors and shareholders

Who sits behind the company, their other directorships, and companies they ran that were struck off or wound up.

Court and insolvency records

Civil suits, winding-up petitions and bankruptcy status of the company and its directors from public court and Insolvency Department searches.

Regulator warning lists

Bank Negara Malaysia's Financial Consumer Alert List, the Securities Commission's Investor Alert List and other public notices.

Address and premises

A discreet site visit to see whether the office, shop, factory or warehouse exists and is operating as claimed.

Reputation and media

News, public complaints, scam reports and online footprint of the company and the people behind it.

Claims they make

Licences, certificates, awards, clients and projects they mention — checked with the issuer where possible.

Assets on public record

Where relevant, land title searches and other records that are open to the public.

What you receive

  • A written report: each finding with where it came from and the date it was checked
  • A short red-flag summary at the top, written for decision-makers
  • A clear statement of what could not be verified, so you know the gaps
  • Copies of the public records we relied on, where they may be shared
  • A call with the investigator to go through the findings and your next step

What we will not do

  • Obtain bank statements, account balances or private financial records
  • Obtain credit reports on a person without that person's written consent
  • Hack emails, phones or systems, or pretend to be someone else to get information
  • Promise an outcome: we report what the evidence shows, including when it is good news

Licensed by the Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN.S.205/642/1-3052) under the Private Agencies Act 1971. Admissibility of any evidence is decided by the court.

Due diligence or a corporate investigation? Due diligence is preventive: it happens before a decision, on a company or person you do not yet trust. A corporate investigation starts after something has gone wrong — suspected fraud, misconduct, leaks or missing stock. If you are not sure which you need, describe the situation and we will tell you honestly. Corporate intelligence & fraud →

Questions

Questions about due diligence

Is business due diligence legal in Malaysia?

Yes, when it uses lawful sources: public registers, court and insolvency searches, regulators' lists, open sources, site visits and interviews. Personal data is handled under the Personal Data Protection Act 2010.

Will the company know we are checking them?

Most checks use public records and are done discreetly. If a step would make the company aware, such as a reference call, we ask you first.

Can you check a company outside Malaysia?

Singapore companies can be checked from public records there as well. For other countries we say clearly what we can and cannot verify before we start.

How long does it take?

It depends on how many companies and people are involved and whether a site visit is needed. We agree the scope and timeline in writing before work begins.

Do you publish prices?

No. Each check is scoped to your situation; you receive a written quotation before any work starts.
